I don't think Dan even have saving. His salary received from JK's probably used all to pay the hospital bill and to JK, maybe he just keeps a little for daily usage.

I would understand Dan being this delusional if there was even a little bit of ambiguous feelings between them but there's none tho whats so ever. Dan is meant to be a 29 year old man whose whole life is full of hardships, one would expect that he knows how the real world works but instead he's just a slow naive boy. Seeing how shocked and dismayed he was in the last panel makes me think that he really did think them two had something going on.
Being in love really takes away your IQ.
I would also like to add that if Dan showed a little bit apprehensive in his feels and thoughts. Like "This is only a physical relationship I shouldn't be falling in love with him this will go nowhere". Instead we get, " Oh he's a bit bad temper, oh well, guess I'm in love now <3." People would be a lot less frustrated.
