Yeah, I was hoping that he didn't die and only escaped to a safer place and wasn't able to get back to CCG because he is too weak right now.
Also, I was hoping that CCG only labeled Amon as dead because they were told he fought with Kaneki and that guy from Aogiri. I hoped that they only labeled it like that because they didn't have a physical body of Amon and assumed his body was torn to pieces.
If something like this happened, it could be that CGG only labeled him as "dead" because they don't have proof of his corpse.
Yet this can't possibly be true because if they didn't have a physical body he would have been labeled under the "Missing" tag.

Or perhaps they are trying to make him look as if he is dead so there can be some undercover operation? As a main character component it would be unwise to show his death in an anti-climatic way. But I think they want to truly make you believe that he is in fact, dead, so we can be hellova damn surprised later on!
I thought he was one of the protagonist. His character has a lot of space to mature. His life can't end.
