I read yuri so i can't really answer that one, but when it comes to shoujo i think its because how the girl and the guy act. Most shoujo have the typical formula of average/below average heroine and overly popular cool, calm, and a total ass for a love interest. And on top of that the girl in the manga is usually a push-over or insecure, and the guy is usually a just seems to be an utter dick,... idk, it just gets really tiring seeing relationships like this. Of course there are those gems in the bunch like Skip Beat and other shoujo with strong female roles, so you could always go for those...

Being honest here! November 23, 2014 11:51 am

In honest opinion, I think girls who likes yaoi is because it's different and it's so hot. The sex scenes are amazing but also the storyline is good as well. I read shoujo here and there but I just can't stand a very girly character who cries all the time or is just plain clueless and it's annoying.

Gay romance is just hard to resist.

Well, yaoi is a subgenre of shoujo, mostly written by women for women.
Stories about forbidden relationships are fun, also you get to see two guys and you can choose which one you like the most (or choose both!), without having the annoying girl in the way. Things like that :P
I don't think yaoi are less cliched though... There's a lot of yaois with insecure ukes.

because after a while, there are girls in shoujo manga that make you want to bang your head against a wall...or at least write their names down in a death note. XD

Well I started reading yaoi/shounen ai when the shoju was just annoying as fucking hell. I am a tomboy and I like the stronger roles, although I've seen some of the yaoi out there so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it. But it is also the storylines, some are cute and some are downright sad and crucial, but it is great stories(a lot of them) and really gets to you love feels, I don't read yuri probably because of the issue I have with sweet and gentle girl leads in manga and I feel like girls behaviour and friendship has been portrayed in a surden way in manga(the same with guys but I love looking at my friends and ship them with each other)

I don't like yuri because i don't like the cute and cuddly stuff type of girl . What annoys me sometime they're too dramatic *no offense* . And yeah they cry a lot too .

Wow, I agree with everyone above hahahaha

I've read a lot of shoujo when I was young. I think they were really interesting for me on that age. As time progressed, those cliche plots and annoying leads made me upset and bored. I wanted something new. Like it made me tired reading them because why should I even do it when I already know what will happen next.

    Then I found yaoi.

Yaoi also has lots of cliche plots (and I still hate annoying leads) but I still prefer it over shoujo.

Good question. I've never read a yuri story and probably never will. No attraction there for me. No issue with people who prefer yuri, though. I usually prefer josei over shoujo, too, although sometimes a shoujo fantasy will grab me. Two handsome guys getting it on, however? Oh yes!

I don't think those sorts of atavistic attractions or revulsions are rational, though, and it really bugs me when people try to objectify feelings and instincts, as though they can or, even, should be categorized and controlled. Leave them in the fantasy realm where they belong, and save the reasoning process for irl. Maybe, then, there will be a healthier separation between fantasy and reality.

well i'm a bit confused as to why you would think man would read yaoi. If they were homosexual men then i would understand but i don't think straight men would read yaoi....much. As for me, i definitely read it because of the forbidden love. I love reading anything pertaining to forbidden love.
And i think most girls like yaoi because, come on, it's two hot guys getting it on. image being a girl and in the middle of that. it's kinda similar as to why so many men like lesbian girls

for example theres a cute guy that you like whos gentle, and you also like a more tough and sporty guy. if both of them are in a relationship, its like getting both of them at the same time.
