Kinda already expected Eren's dad to be dead. If he wasn't, Eren wouldn't be crying. In one chapter, where the squad was experimenting with Eren, he kept saying something about his "Father." And Hanji said he was crying while saying that. So I think that when Eren was in his titan form, he probably remembered bits of pieces of what he did to his dad.
