And in the fight before this one, Amon had somewhat of an upper hand over Kaneki, and even had the opportunity to kill him, but he didn't because he knew that Kaneki was mentally unstable and suffering. (But in a way, he would have been justified in doing so due to the fact that Kaneki was about to kill the other investigater, as well as Amon himself) But when the time came in which they had their final confrontation, Kaneki had gotten to the point where it became nearly impossible to maintain what little sanity he had left, and shortly afterwards he lost a grip on it completely. So Kaneki didn't hold back. At that point anyone who got in his way would not have been shown any mercy. Friend OR foe... It's heartbreaking...;w;

Did anyone ever notice the times that when Amon tried to bring Kaneki back to his senses, he always got his ass kicked by Kaneki. I mean, that just shows some consideration, he even cared about Kaneki when Kaneki cut his arm off.
