I think you're wrong!i've read this manga many times over..and from what I understand,mei was referring to the old sato,when he said that his love has died!now he wants to stay with the lonely and sad new sato,until their love bloomed..he realize how much he hurt the new sato(coz from the start he was just using him or for short they've just using each other)that's why he felt guilty,and said I'm sorry a lot of times!
From my point of view it's not a happy ending kind,but I think it's a painful but sweet ending!just saying:)
No, it was the love for the "old" Sato (Satoshi) that died. Mei just realized that he loves "new" Sato (Misato) but he thinks it's a one-sided love because Misato doesn't confess to him yet.
You obviously had it wrong. That's partly that line's fault,written like that without stating it clearly.
His love for Satoshi ended and he decided it's Misato who he loves in the end. If you read on,he stated he wouldn't release him (Misato) and even told Misato 'I love you'.
'I love you' is not in here. Read the whole story in Beautiful Day ch6-ch8,you will understand what's going on then.
I don't care about the evelopment of the story (it was so twisted)...
All i know thai mei started to love the new sato and sato (new) love him back... that's all.. happy ending!!!
