Because the monthly (?) publication had X pages and the mangaka's editor got their name in, and thus a very short story was born. Mangaka don't tend to get to choose how long their one shots are, from what I can tell.
I like having some variety, so I enjoy the occasional "It's not meant to be, but you can dream," stories. That they're kept short keeps the ending less painful.
Wow I loved the first story sooo much!! Except personally, I'd have liked it better if the older guy was the seme and the younger one stayed small and cute. But it was still amazing to read.
The last story I really liked but was kind of sad about since it seemed so incomplete :( Why write a story if it'll end so abruptly?!
